Two teenagers have been charged over alleged property theft offences in the state's south.
About 7.30pm on Sunday (17 November 2024), police were called to Russell Street, Deniliquin, following reports of an abandoned vehicle.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found an abandoned Toyota sedan, which they seized for forensic examination.
Police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Inquiries revealed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a home on Macauley Street, Deniliquin, earlier that day.
About 8pm on Wednesday (20 November 2024), a 15-year-old boy was arrested in Deniliquin and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.
Following further inquiries, about 2.40pm on Thursday 21 November 2024, police arrested a 14-year-old boy in Deniliquin and was taken to Deniliquin Police Station.
He was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
Both teenagers were granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Wednesday December 11 2024.
Police will allege in court the teenagers broke into the home, where they allegedly stole money and keys to the vehicle.
Investigations are ongoing.
