Temporary Bridge Built Over Ollera Creek

Police are allowing accredited tradespeople access over the temporary bridge at Ollera Creek for urgent electrical safety checks at flood impacted residences.

Electricians and other tradespeople will need to produce their Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Licence at the Rollingstone Truck Pads checkpoint, 3 kilometres south of the bridge, to be granted access.

The community is advised not to attend the area unless they are part of the flood response.

The nearby rail bridge is also under police management.

Essential access to assist the Ingham community can be provided by Queensland Rail via a small bus on the rail tracks for limited groups of people.

Police are also asking North Queensland communities to be wary of potential scammers trying to take advantage of flood-affected areas during recovery and clean up.

People posing as tradespeople, including electricians, have been known to approach people during times of hardship.

While police are yet to receive any reports of this occurring, residents are reminded to be wary.

If you are approached by an electrician or tradesperson offering to help, ask for their electrical licence which you can check and verify through the Electrical Licence Register.

Anyone who has information regarding suspicious behaviour is encouraged to report that immediately to Policelink.
