Mitchell Shire Council is set to deliver a significant upgrade to Darraweit Road in Wallan, marking another major investment in the Shire's growing road infrastructure.
The tender for the $2.7 million project was awarded at the Council meeting on Monday 16 December, with works set to begin in May 2025 and be completed by September 2025.
The project is part of the Australian Government's $11 million commitment towards the Macedon and Mitchell Shire Roads project. A total of $5.5 million is being provided towards the Darraweit Road works and the Wellington Street upgrade. Mitchell Shire Council is also committing $200,000 towards the projects.
The Darraweit Road project will see the section between Acacia Way and Roulston Way upgraded including underground drainage, kerbing, and repairs to road pavement to ensure a safer and more durable road for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor John Dougall highlighted the importance of these upgrades to support Wallan's development.
"The Darraweit Road reconstruction is a vital project for Wallan's road network. It will improve road safety, enhance drainage, and ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the Shire's extraordinary growth," he said.
"Thanks to Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell's ongoing advocacy for our communities and this funding from the Australian Government, we're delivering critical projects like this to meet the needs of our expanding community."
