Construction of the long-awaited Kiewa Multipurpose Pavilion was soon get underway after Council awarded a $840,000 tender to Barton St Developments.
Council was successful in securing a grant to partly fund the project from Sport and Recreation Victoria under the Female Friendly Facilities Program and contributions from the Kiewa Cricket Club and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program will also fund the project.
The new pavilion, will be built above the required flood level and will be a family and female friendly facility comprising of three change rooms with shower and toilet facilities, umpire facilities, three unisex toilets (including ambulant and accessible), a canteen and storage space and a multipurpose room. The pavilion will also include an accessible ramp and elevated verandah that overlooks the cricket oval and tennis courts with a grassed embankment and stairs leading down to the cricket oval.
The new pavilion will replace the existing facility which was built in the late 1960s and will support the Kiewa Cricket and Kiewa Tennis Clubs.
Mayor Bernard Gaffney says that the new facility will support the rapidly growing numbers at both clubs, including increased female participation, and provide a functional and accessible space for a number of further health and wellbeing activities for the growing Kiewa-Tangambalanga community, such as yoga, pilates, scouts, fundraising and social events.
