We released a request for tender on 6 September 2024 to seek proposals from commercial vessel operators to be part of a pilot program to help establish Australia's Strategic Fleet.
The Australian Government is establishing a Maritime Strategic Fleet which will improve our maritime capability, especially in times of national crisis and emergency.
We are calling on privately owned commercial vessel operators to apply to be part of the pilot.
Vessels will be selected through a competitive, open and transparent process that ensures the government achieves value for money. We are working to get Strategic Fleet vessels on the water as soon as possible.
Being part of the Pilot means that in times of need, your vessel may be requisitioned to assist with the movement of critical cargo during supply chain disruptions, crisis or national emergency.
