Tenders have now been called for the new People With Disability (PWD) change rooms at Yarraman Memorial Pool.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Environment and Community Services Committee Chair Cr James O'Shea said Council is pleased these planned upgrades are a step closer to being delivered for the community.
The upgrades will involve the construction of a new change room to meet relevant Australian Standards for People with a Disability.
"The existing change rooms at Yarraman Pool do not meet the required Australian standards for PWD and may currently be a barrier for some residents wanting to use the facilities.
"As part of these works, the outdated sling lift will be replaced with a new chair lift to improve access to the pool, along with a new wheel chair accessible path between the road, change room and the pool." Cr O'Shea said
"We understand the community have been looking forward to PWD access improvements at Yarraman Pool and Council is pleased that we have now been able to invite for tenders for these works so they can get underway as soon as possible.
"We hope that by making these updates, more community members will enjoy the pool and its recreational benefits."
Due to budget limits, a ramp in the pool will not be constructed as part of the upgrades, however Council will continue to improve PWD access at the pool moving forward.
Construction is expected to commence from late 2021 and be completed by 2022. Access to the pool will be maintained during the 2021/22 summer season.
