The City of Launceston will this weekend advertise a tender to undertake repair and refurbishment works on two North Esk River pontoons.

The project will involve refurbishment of both the Home Point pontoon and the Sea Scout pontoon, the latter having sustained significant damage in last October's flood event.

The existing timber decking on the Home Point pontoon will be replaced with composite plastic decking, bringing it to a similar standard as the Sea Scout Pontoon which underwent a decking upgrade in 2017.

Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the project would also see additional anchors installed on the Sea Scout pontoon to improve its resilience in future flood events.

"These pontoons are utilised by the TS Tamar Australian Navy Cadets, the 1st Tamar Sea Scouts and Tamar River Cruises, and form an important link with the kanamaluka / Tamar Estuary," Mayor Garwood said.

"We hope to see the works underway before Christmas.

"The refurbishment and repair project is aimed at extending the useful life of these two pontoons so that they can continue to be utilised well into the future."
