Tenders Invited for Risdon Prison Security Upgrade

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government has today invited tenders to upgrade security systems at the Risdon Prison Complex near Hobart.

A new Electronic Security System (ESS) and Mobile Duress Alarm System (MDAS) is set to be installed at the complex, and the existing Radio Communications Network will be replaced.

Minister for Corrections and Rehabilitation, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the $15.6 million project is a key part of the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"Every person that comes into contact with our corrections system deserves to feel safe and secure in that environment," Minister Ogilvie said.

"The upgrades will future-proof security at the complex, enabling staff to better monitor goings-on, and anyone in duress to more easily and quickly seek assistance."

Tenders for the project open on 16 November 2024 and close on 16 January 2025. The successful bidder will be announced early in the new year.
