The Parkes Newell Highway Bypass is a step close with tenders being called to build the $187.2 million project which is being funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack MP said the call for tenders would be open for eight weeks to allow the best proposals to come forward.
"We know how important this bypass will be for the community at Parkes and for the thousands of vehicles that travel along the Newell Highway everyday - that is why we have committed $149.7 million of Commonwealth funding," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Mayor of Parkes Shire Cr Ken Keith OAM said in what is an exciting step for the project, we encourage our local businesses to register with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) about the services they are able to provide through the eTendering portal at www.tenders.nsw.gov.au.
"Council has been working closely with TfNSW to ensure local businesses are equipped with the information they need in order to leverage the benefits of this project for our community," said Cr Keith.
In addition to the main construction tenderer, they will be looking for a wide range of services from earthworks, concreting, scaffolding, road construction materials and more.
TfNSW have already seen four local companies engaged in areas such as slashing, demolition, fencing and surveying work.
Jason Kennedy, a local business owner in Parkes said he registered his business K & H Earthmoving & Haulage as part of the tendering process for the early works of the Parkes Bypass. "Following the tendering process, I was successful in gaining work as part of the early works. I strongly encourage local businesses to register their details with TfNSW so they too can benefit from the project."
