The 30th Hobart International Tennis Tournament has wrapped up today at the Domain Tennis Centre after another bumper event.
Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said around 70 of the world's best women's tennis players battled it out across the eight-day tournament.
"Congratulations to McCartney Kessler who was crowned the Singles Champion and Xinyu Jiang and Fang-Hsien Wu who took home the Doubles Trophy. It was a great, hard-fought tournament with many good-to-watch matches," Minister Duigan said.
"To celebrate the tournament's 30th anniversary, local tennis great Angie Cunningham was inducted into the Tennis Tasmania Hall of Fame. The Angie Cunningham Trophy is also named after Angie, who passed away in 2016."
The Hobart International has garnered a reputation for showcasing some of the top women's tennis players in the world.
"The Hobart International is a key milestone in Tasmania's jam-packed summer events calendar, coming off the back of other popular events including the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Taste of Summer and BeerFest," Minister Duigan said.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Government is committed to providing opportunities for Tasmanians to access live elite sporting events, in turn inspiring our young Tasmanian athletes and encouraging health and wellbeing in our community.
"Events such as the Hobart International also promote Tasmania as a premier sporting events destination, and encourage interstate and international visitation to our state.
"The Tasmanian Government is proud to support Tennis Australia with $1.5 million in funding over five years to support the delivery of the Hobart International through to 2027, and an additional $50,000 to support the 30th anniversary celebrations, through Events Tasmania's Major Event Partnerships Program," Minister Duigan said.
The Hobart International Tennis Tournament ran from 4–11 January 2025.
