Territorians Celebrate New Year's Eve 2024

Northern Territory Police Force are relatively pleased with the behaviour of the New Year's Eve revellers at the Darwin Waterfront.

The celebrations went off without a hitch, aside from a small number of individuals who engaged in disorderly or anti-social behaviour, leading to ten apprehensions.

Police also reunited two lost children with their families and recovered a stolen bag, which was returned to its owner.

Operation Angove was out in force across the Territory conducting over 2260 random breath tests resulting in 21 positive results. Of note, three people tested positive for drugs.

Additionally, 905 speed camera checks were conducted with 15 people receiving infringements.

Around the Territory, in Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, police did not record any major incidents with revellers.

Territory Duty Superintendent Evans Kelly said, "While it was a busy night for police, patrons overall were well-behaved and enjoyed celebrating the incoming new year.

"It is disappointing to see any positive RBT results, let alone over 20 for alcohol and three for drugs.

"With the exception of a few incidents, the Territory welcomed the New Year in a fantastic way, and we are very pleased with the night as a whole.

"We would like to thank the public for a great evening.

"Stay safe and Happy New Year."
