Territory Coordinator: Bold Plan to Rebuild Economy

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is taking decisive action to drive economic reform and unlock the Territory's potential through the Territory Coordinator Bill.

It is a transformative initiative designed to deliver economic growth, streamline processes, and attract significant investment.

Since the consultation paper, draft Bill, and explanatory guide were released on 11 October 2024, the Government has received more than 500 submissions reflecting the views of Territorians, industry leaders, and stakeholders.

This extensive consultation highlights the Government's commitment to creating a framework that is robust, inclusive, and designed to deliver real results.

The Territory Coordinator is a game-changing initiative for the Northern Territory, said Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro.

"By cutting through red tape, fast-tracking approvals, and streamlining processes, this role will drive economic growth and position the NT as a leader in investment attraction," she said.

"This is about creating jobs, delivering results, and ensuring the Territory remains competitive on both the national and global stage.

"We've listened to Territorians, and the feedback has been instrumental in shaping a framework that balances economic progress with accountability. The message is clear: the Northern Territory is open for business."

The revised bill will be informed by a rigorous consultation process with more than 300 attendees participating in six public forums across the Territory.

In addition, feedback was gathered through:

89 stakeholder consultation meetings with 267 participants, including peak bodies, industry leaders, and community groups.559 written submissions, including 289 unique and 270 campaign submissions, were received across both consultation phases.81 community information forum feedback forms were submitted.

"This level of engagement will ensure the Territory Coordinator's framework reflects the priorities of our community and industries, making it fit-for-purpose and ready to deliver results," said Mrs Finocchiaro.

The feedback will be summarised in a publicly available consultation report, which will inform amendments to the draft Bill.

The revised Bill will be introduced to the Legislative Assembly in the February sittings, before being referred to the Scrutiny Committee for additional consultation.
