Are you heading to Mount Hotham or Falls Creek, why not stop off at Omeo and test out the first 10km of stage 1 of the trails?
The trails have been well used since Easter weekend, with mountain bike enthusiasts getting into nature for fitness or getting their adrenaline rush.
The first 10km are just a 'taster' of what is to come and are a blend of fun beginner and intermediate cross-country and gravity trails with great views over Livingstone Creek and Omeo. All can be accessed from the trail head at Livingstone Park.
Trail building continues
It was a big effort by everyone involved to get the first 10km of trails ready for Easter.
It was great to see a big turn out at the community barbecue on 6 April and the public riding the trails.
Feedback coming in from riders and walkers has been overwhelmingly positive. There was lots of great feedback from local walkers who were excited to be able to walk along the southern side of Livingstone Creek for the first time.
Common Ground continues trail building, including on Mt Mesley and Mt Sam.
Did you know?
We recently hosted a desktop training exercise with emergency service partners to test response capabilities in e event of an emergency on the trails.
Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, DEECA, SES and CFA were amongst the participants that worked through a scenario of an injured rider. The scenario worked through the initial 000 call and the roles each agency would play in the response.
Agencies discussed access, communication, multi-agency cooperation, community involvement and patient care.
The exercise gave great insight what agencies may face during an emergency event and the strategies and procedures required to ensure the best possible outcome.
This desktop exercise will serve as a prelude to anon-ground exercise later in the year.
