Textile Recycling Stopped

A red cross over the textile recycling bin to indicate the service has ended

This decision by Upcycle 4 Better is due to ongoing challenges within the textile recycling industry, including global market saturation and rising processing costs. These costs have made it unsustainable for many programs to continue.

There are still many ways you can help reduce textile waste:

  • Donate gently used clothing to local charities or businesses that accept second-hand items. Please ensure these are high quality and in mint condition (remember to ask yourself if you'd give the item to a friend – this is a good guide for ensuring the quality of your donated garments).
  • Check with animal shelters in the area, as many accept old textiles for bedding and other uses.
  • Extend the life of your textiles by repairing, repurposing, or upcycling items at home before considering disposal.

The best thing we can all do to reduce textile waste is to make mindful purchases, avoiding fast fashion and excessive shopping. Buying less will help the environment and save you money.
