How do States handle claims arising from oil spills? A national workshop in Bangkok Thailand (3-5 September) is focusing on handling and administering claims arising from oil pollution damages.
Forty-five Thai officials from key government entities, ports, and the oil and gas industry are gaining knowledge on practical aspects of managing such claims. Topics include the international regime governing liabilities and compensation for oil pollution damages.
The event served as a forum for reviewing Thailand's national framework and legislation on oil pollution liabilities and compensation, as the country works to strengthen its expertise in this area.
The workshop is organized by the Global Initiative for Southeast Asia (GI-SEA) through IMO's Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP).
