Thank You To Our Outside School Hours Care Educators

Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

Today, on National Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators' Day, the Tasmanian Liberal Government is celebrating the positive impact these educators have on the lives of children and families.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said our OSHC educators support a significant number of Tasmanian families with essential care.

"Our OSHC educators provide an environment that is safe and full of learning opportunities, while helping children feel valued," Minister Palmer said.

"There are currently more than 1000 educators that provide OSHC and vacation care in the State, spanning across 176 services.

"Providing this critical service helps families thrive, by allowing parents and carers to engage in employment, study, volunteer work and caring responsibilities outside of school hours.

"Thank you to our OSHC educators, today and every day, for the valuable work you do to support children and families in Tasmania."

The theme of this year's OSHC Educators' Day is "limitless possibilities", highlighting that with innovative educators comes limitless, creative approaches to learning, fun and play.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting our OSHC services and educators, by continuing to invest in this important sector.

As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are investing $10 million to support primary and district schools to establish new onsite OSHC services in partnership with local early childhood education and care providers.

We're also investing $32 million to develop four supersized Child and Family Learning Centres, as well as completing a Government land audit for the development of new early childhood, OSHC or vacation care sites.
