Bairnsdale Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of thefts of Stihl chainsaws and power tools over the last four months., Victoria Police say
The thefts occurred at a hardware store chain at Bendoc, Cann River, Orbost, Bairnsdale and Briagolong.
Unknown offenders have gained access to the store compounds stealing various chainsaws and power tools.
In May, the unknown offenders have attended the rear compound yard of a hardware store on Princes Highway, Cann River.
The offenders have removed keys from parked vehicles to access a toolbox and have taken the chainsaws contained within.
In June, unknown offenders have attended a hardware store at South Boundary Road, Orbost and gained access to the compound by cutting the padlock bolt on the gate.
They have gained access to the lock boxes at the rear of parked vehicles by jemmying the locks and have taken chainsaws contained within.
They have also taken small metal jerry cans and one drip torch.
In August, unknown offenders have attended a hardware store on Nichol Street, Bendoc in a 4WD vehicle.
The offenders have gained entry to the fenced yard and have taken numerous air and cordless tools, a Mig welder and Argon cylinder from the work areas.
In August, the unknown offenders have attended another depot on Princes Highway, Bairnsdale.
The offenders have climbed the fence and forced open toolboxes, taking the chainsaws contained within.
Police have released an image of a Stihl chainsaw similar to the one stolen.
