A man is due in court today charged after the alleged assault of two off-duty police officers in Newtown last week.
Emergency services had been called to Enmore Road just after 11pm last Wednesday (22 January 2025), and found a 25-year-old man unconscious on the roadway.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were told the injured man and a second man, both off-duty police officers, were allegedly assaulted after speaking with three men.
The second officer, also aged 25, suffered facial injuries. Both men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further treatment and have since been released.
A crime scene was established, and Inner West Police Area Command detectives commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Rabnor.
Following inquiries, two men – aged 18 and 20 – were arrested and charged and remain before the courts.
About 3.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 28 January 2025), police arrested a 22-year-old man at Enmore.
He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.
He has been refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court later today (Wednesday 29 January 2025).
