Thomas Oval will be hosting more than dogs for the next few months with a temporary compound set up to stockpile leaf matter during the leaf fall season, from March to July.
The compound is located at the north-east corner of the park, at the top of the maintenance access road and away from the fenced dog park.
The area will be used to stockpile leaf matter collected from nearby streets, before being transported to recycling facilities for processing into mulch.
The mulch will be used on our parks and gardens – giving back to where it came from - gardens to ground, recycling to gardens … the circular economy at work!
The leaf matter being stockpiled at Thomas Oval is part of the over 500 tonnes collected each year from across Stonnington.
By creating this temporary stockpile, we can recycle significant volumes of leaf matter that would otherwise be destined for landfill.
To accommodate the compound, we may need to relocate some items of park furniture. If that's the case, the furniture will be reinstated when the compound is removed. Any lawn damage from the compound or vehicle movements delivering and collecting the leaf matter will also be repaired.
Please be aware there will be increased vehicles movements during this time, so please be careful and keep your dog on-leash unless in the designated dog park area.
