Several thousand people are expected to take a look at behind the scenes at the world of policing at Queensland Police Service's major Open Day events hosted in Brisbane and Townsville tomorrow, Saturday, July 15.
Gates to the Bob Atkinson Operational Capability Centre in Wacol and the Townsville Police Academy will open to showcase the many paths available to prospective police recruits.
The events, which will run from 9am to 2pm, will bring together a number of the organisation's various specialist units to provide demonstrations and information to attendees.
Units including the Dog Squad, Road Policing and Regional Support Command, Dive Squad and Water Police will each attend to demonstrate support for the event, the second of its kind to ever occur, following an incredibly successful event in 2022.
The Open Day will also offer an opportunity to view state-of-the-art training facilities where recruits will embark on their training journey and give them the opportunity to kickstart their applications.
Acting Superintendent Renee Kurtz said the Open Day is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the many opportunities a policing career can offer by bringing the Services' units together in one place.
"Bringing our many specialist units and officers together at an event such as this, allows prospective recruits to find out more about the certain units they may be interested in, as well as a deeper dive into a career with the QPS," Acting Superintendent Kurtz said.
"The Bob Atkinson Operational Capabilities Centre and Academy training facilities, where the potential recruits will begin their journey, are world-class and we are proud to open their doors to the public so those considering a policing career can explore its offerings.
"Attendees will be able to speak to officers, see demonstrations from specialist areas such as Dog Squad, Highway Patrol, Public Safety Response Team, POLAIR, and learn how diverse a career with the QPS really is."
