Three adults and one teenager have been charged following a pursuit in Orange.
About 9:30am yesterday (Sunday 9 June 2024), officers attached to the Orana Police District were patrolling the Mitchell Highway, Geurie, when they located a Holden Equinox being driven by a man with another man and a female as passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle had been reported as stolen earlier that morning from Kenna Street, Orange.
Officers activated their lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle, however when it failed to stop a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle was located in James Sheahan Drive, Orange, with two of the occupants seen to enter a Toyota Rav 4 being driven by a 33-year-old woman.
The four-wheel drive stopped in a carpark on Anson Street, Orange, where the driver and a 30-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were arrested.
It will be alleged that the 17-year-old girl spat on police during the arrest.
A 19-year-old man was arrested a short time later at a property on Sale Street, Orange.
All four people were taken to Orange Police Station.
The 33-year-old woman was issued with a court attendance notice for drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and is due to appear at Orange Local Court on Thursday 4 July 2024.
Police will allege the driver of the Equinox was the 30-year-old man. It will be further alleged that on Saturday (8 June 2024) he was approached by police whilst seated in the drivers seat of a stolen car on Noreen Place, Orange, where he drove through two fences narrowly avoiding colliding with an officer. The car had been reported stolen from March Street, Orange, the previous day (Friday 7 June 2024).
When arrested the man was allegedly found to be in possession of a small amount of methyl-amphetamine.
He was charged with four outstanding warrants along with ten other charges including:
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner x 2
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous x 2
- Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc
- Take & drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly
- Dishonestly obtain property by deception
- Possess prohibited drug
It will be alleged that the 19-year-old man was involved in a break and enter on a mechanical workshop along Edward Street, Orange, on Thursday (6 June 2024) where a motor bike was stolen and he was charged with eight offences including:
- Aggravated break and enter etc in company steal
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
- Motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet
- Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR
- Drive unregistered vehicle on road or road related area
- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner x 2
Both men were refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Monday 10 June 2024).
The 17-year-old girl was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm. She was also refused bail to appear at Parramatta Children's Court today (Monday 10 June 2024).
There were no reports of any person being seriously injured.
