Three Arrested On Port Augusta 'Day Of Action'

Port Augusta police last week held a 'Day of Action' aimed at targeting anti-social behaviour, criminal offending and dangerous driving.

On Thursday 6 February the Day of Action was supported by additional South Australia Police (SAPOL) resources, including Dog Operations Unit, STAR Operations, Licensing Enforcement Branch, State Operations Support Branch, Traffic Services Branch, including police motorcycles, and neighbouring police from Yorke Mid North Local Service Area.

Officer in Charge of the Far North Local Service Area, Superintendent Paul Isherwood, said the increased police presence was part of ongoing efforts to ensure community safety for both residents and visitors to Port Augusta.

"Despite the heat, police officers were very dedicated and achieved some great results," he said.

"Local police will continue to take action against those who commit crime, behaviour in a disorderly manner, or make unsafe choices behind the wheel."

Day of Action results included:

  • Three arrests, including a Port Augusta man being charged with Trafficking a Controlled Drug and Cultivate Cannabis for Sale.
  • Recovery of stolen property, including a KTM motorcycle which was stolen from Adelaide in January 2023, and a wallet stolen in a break-in that occurred in Port Augusta in October 2024.
  • Conducting 34 checks to ensure compliance with bail conditions for those people on curfews to remain home at night.
  • One Port Augusta licensed premises was identified as breaching its liquor licence conditions.
  • Conducting 210 driver screening tests for alcohol and 66 for drugs.

The operation complements a Declared Public Precinct (DPP) currently in place to improve public safety, which allow police to conduct metal detector searches of people or property, carry out drug detection on any person within the area and order a person or group posing a risk to public order or safety to leave the designated precinct area.
