Three Charged in Prison Drug Ring

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged three additional people over their alleged involvement in prison drug supply under Strike Force Wessex.

Strike Force Wessex was established by State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad in April 2023 to investigate alleged criminal groups involved in drug supply using drug run or 'dial-a-dealer' phones across Sydney.

During the investigation, detectives identified a syndicate operating within a correctional centre.

Two men were arrested earlier this year and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 8.30am yesterday (Monday 12 August 2024), strike force detectives attended an address in South Penrith where they arrested a 75-year-old woman.

The woman was taken to St Marys Police Station, where she was charged with supply prohibited drug

About 8am today (Tuesday 13 August 2024), strike force detectives executed a search warrant in Orange, where they arrested a 56-year-old man and 50-year-old woman.

The pair were taken to Orange Police Station, where they were each charged with supply prohibited drug

Police will allege the group were involved in the supply of buprenorphine within a prison.
