Three Days To Go Before Very Special Walkies

RSPCA's Million Paws Walk at Adelaide Botanic Garden on this Sunday

Dog lovers will descend on the Adelaide Botanic Garden this Sunday, with over 2000 tickets to attend RSPCA South Australia's Million Paws Walk already purchased.

The national event is taking place at multiple locations around Australia and coincides with Botanic Gardens Day, an annual celebration in Australia and New Zealand of the work done within botanical gardens to conserve plants for future generations.

Participants can choose from six start times, with the first walkers setting off at 9:00am and the final group at 11:30am. There are two distance options – a 2.3km walk or a 3.5km walk. The walk ends in the Million Paws Walk Village, located in the Botanic Park (next to Adelaide Botanic Garden), where food, beverages and pet-related services and merchandise will be available to purchase. There will also be dog training demonstrations and members of RSPCA SA's animal behaviour team on-hand with tips and advice.

It is the third year that RSPCA South Australia has been allowed to hold its main fundraising event inside Adelaide Botanic Garden, and this year the event is celebrating 30 years since the first Million Paws Walk was held in Queensland.

"It's been a busy month for our organisation, with the closure of our Lonsdale shelter and the official opening of our new Animal Care Campus at O'Halloran Hill, and we're looking forward to coming together again with our supporters for this unique event," RSPCA SA CEO Marcus Gehrig said.

"The current forecast is for sunshine and a maximum temperature of 21C, perfect conditions for taking in the Garden's autumn splendour with our dogs.

"I encourage anyone who wants to be part of this very special day to go online, buy a ticket and start fundraising to support the animals in our care right now."

There are currently 650 animals in RSPCA SA's care, with almost 200 housed at the new Animal Care Centre at O'Halloran Hill and 60% living in the homes of volunteer foster carers.
