Three Moves for Education Minister Ben Carroll Today

Liberal Party Victoria

Labor's Minister for Education, Ben Carroll, must today take three overdue actions in response to the 2024 VCE examination debacle.

Firstly,to ensure accountability forthe inexcusable failures, the CEO of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), Ms Kylie White, must be stood down.

Secondly, the Minister must provide clarity by guaranteeing no student will be left at a disadvantage. How will the compromised exams be marked? How will final study scores be determined? Will the Minister guarantee complete transparency around these processes?

Thirdly, to take responsibility, the Minister must support the Liberals and Nationals'proposal to refer the VCAA to the Victorian Ombudsman for a comprehensive and independent investigation.

The VCE examination debacle worsens by the day. Victorian students are paying the price for the Allan Labor Government's incompetence and unwillingness to take responsibility.

Shadow Minister for Early Childhood and Education, Jess Wilson, said: "The 2024 VCE exam period is in disarray and the Minister and the Allan Labor Government are nowhere to be seen.

"It's time Minister Carroll put students first.

"These three actions must be taken immediately to help reassure hardworking students and begin to restore community confidence in the VCAA and VCE assessment process.

"If the Minister for Education won't take action, the Liberals and Nationals will by moving for a Parliamentary referral of the 2024 VCE examination debacle to the Victorian Ombudsman."
