Three Victorians selected for new Contracted Umpires Panel

In exciting news for Victorian cricket, Phil Gillespie, Shawn Craig, and Daryl Brigham have been selected for the newly established Cricket Australia Contracted Umpires Panel (CACUP) for the 2024/2025 season.

This is the first time Daryl Brigham has been selected as a member of the CACUP, with his appointment coming off the back off significant contributions to cricket umpiring and the Victorian State Umpire Panel.

Phil Gillespie will continue on the ICC International Umpiring Panel for the 2024/2025 season, joined by former Victorian first-class player turned umpire Shawn Craig – who capped off a terrific season by umpiring the Sheffield Shield final. The return of Shaun Craig to the International Umpiring Panel, gives Victoria two representatives on the international stage.

In further news, across the Pacific, Lisa McCabe and Phil Gillespie have been selected to umpire in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers, currently taking place in Samoa.

Lisa McCabe is a current member of the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires and continues to represent Australia at ICC international events. Her achievements are a source of great pride for the Victorian umpiring community and are inspiring future generations of women and girl umpires. Lisa is dedicated to increasing the number of women and girls participating in umpiring nationally.

Cricket Victoria's Head of Umpiring and Community Coaching, Ben Brennan, expressed his excitement regarding the achievements of all four umpires.

"I'm thrilled for Phil, Shawn, Daryl and Lisa on their well-deserved selections," Mr Brennan said.

"A huge amount of dedication, patience, and training is required to umpire at the highest level, and these four continue to demonstrate that they have the skills and qualities required.

"Not only are they exceptional umpires, but they are extremely generous with their knowledge and time, regularly giving back to the broader Victorian umpiring community and offering to help at every opportunity.

"I want to thank them personally, and on behalf of Cricket Victoria, wish them every success for the upcoming season."

The appointments of four Victorians who continue to develop their skills at the elite-level, reflect the strength of Victoria's umpiring programs, led by Cricket Victoria's State Umpire Performance Coach Geoff Joshua & State Umpire Development Coach Damian Herft.

Cricket Victoria aims to continue to strengthen its umpiring pathways moving forward, enhancing visibility and leading to greater opportunities for Victorians to take the next step in their umpiring journey.
