Through First G20 EdWG Meeting, Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture

Yogyakarta, March 18, 2022

– Closing the agenda for the first meeting of the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) 2022 led by Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Chair of the G20 EdWG Dr. Iwan Syahril stated that Indonesia has strengthened the call for G20 countries, special invitees, international organizations, as well as relevant Working Groups dan Engagement Groups to work together to create quality education.

The G20 member countries agreed to commit to the four G20 EdWG priority agendas, which are expected to be a solution for the common good to recover from the pandemic. The four priority agendas are Universal Quality Education, Digital Technology in Education, Solidarity and Partnership, and The Future of Work Post COVID-19.

As Indonesia conveyed the challenges during the pandemic and shared the good practices of the Emancipated Learning (Merdeka Belajar) breakthrough for education recovery, delegates also shared their initiatives, strategies, as well as challenges faced in accelerating the quality of education.

"Indonesia has shared Emancipated Learning programs' best practices which are in line with what some delegates have delivered with regards to education recovery in their respective countries," said Dr. Syahril in the 1st G20 Education Working Group Meeting, Friday (18/3).

"Delegates also shared initiatives, strategies, as well as best practices related to the four priority agendas. This is intended to create a process of mutual learning, and to strengthen the principles of gotong royong at the global level," he added.

Concluding the press conference Dr. Syahril stated, "With the consensus on the idea and spirit of gotong royong, global collaboration is recommended to be stated in the Ministerial Declaration as the outcome of the G20 Education Working Group meeting. We will follow up this recommendation by strengthening the existing consensus throughout the upcoming EdWG meetings."

The second, third and fourth G20 EdWG meeting will be held prior to the Ministerial Meeting on Education in July 2022 which will take place in Bali, Indonesia.
