Tiger Brennan Overpass Community Open Day

NT Government

A community open day is on today at the site of the Tiger Brennan Drive and Berrimah Road Overpass project offering the chance to learn more about the project and even walk the newly constructed bridge.

Kicking off at 9am until 12pm the community open day provides the opportunity to experience and learn more about this iconic road project first-hand, get an exclusive look at the new overpass from spectacular viewing points and even the chance to watch Top End Gran Fondo cyclists from atop the new bridge.

The $165 million project jointly funded by the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government marked a 70% completion milestone in mid-June enabling motorists to use both the inbound and outbound lanes under the bridge which carries Berrimah Road over Tiger Brennan Drive.

With more than 20,000 motorists travelling Tiger Brennan Drive daily, this landmark project for Greater Darwin will improve road safety, reduce traffic delays during peak hours and increase the traffic flow for freight connectivity.

Local Territory company, Sitzler is delivering the project in addition to local subcontractors and suppliers with over 220 local businesses, more than 1,350 workers including 161 Indigenous workers and 37 apprentices and trainees involved in the project to date.

The next milestone for the project will be the completion of the Tiger Brennan Drive outbound on and off ramps and the connection of the northern end of Berrimah Road, which is anticipated to open to traffic in September 2024 with the overall project to be completed by the end of the year.

Access to the community event is from the site office complex on Marlow Road, Berrimah. All attendees are required to wear closed in shoes to access the site.
