Tasmania's next cohort of quality sports coaches have been recognised with
the 2024-25 Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) Coaching Centre Scholarships announced today.
Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the six recipients of the 2024-25 scholarships were going into an intensive professional development program to build up their skills and prepare them for a life in professional coaching.
"These talented individuals are set to become the best they can be and reach for the top levels in their chosen sports," Minister Duigan said.
"The recipients not only go into dedicated training, they receive financial assistance across the year-long development program and mentoring from experienced coaches.
"Importantly, two of today's recipients are being supported though the Women in Sport Coaching Scholarships, made possible by our partnership with Womensport and Recreation Tasmania and aimed specifically at getting more women into coaching in Tasmania."
It's the third year these scholarships have been offered directly through the TIS Coaching Centre and the sixth year partnering with Womensport and Recreation Tasmania.
"It's great to see such a diverse range of sports represented," Minister Duigan said.
"We are excited to this year offer additional opportunities in the Para Coaching space via the newly created Para Coaching Scholarship, ensuring Tasmanian Para Athletes have access to top tier coaching as they prepare for future challenges.
"We look forward to seeing the progress of our scholarship recipients across the coming year and perhaps one day seeing them on the national and international stage.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future gives Tasmanians access to sporting facilities they need to succeed, these scholarships do that."
