TLDMG Moves To Stand Up

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group has moved to stand up.

Advice from the Bureau of Meteorology has indicated that heavy rain will continue throughout the weekend with potential to cause widespread localised flooding.

Residents should be prepared to leave their homes if required. Residents who need to leave their homes should seek shelter with friends and family.

The Heatley Secondary College Evacuation Centre remains open as a last-resort option. This evacuation centre does not accept pets and is not for long-term evacuation.

Ross River Dam is currently undertaking a controlled release through the spillway as per the dam's approved Emergency Action Plan.

Release from the spillway is a standardised practice and undertaken as part of the approved Emergency Action Plan for management of the Ross River Dam. The release will contribute to increased flows in the Ross River.

Sand will be replenished by 7:30am tomorrow across all sites and can be collected at:

  • Council Depot Ross Dam Access, Ross Dam Access, Kelso QLD 4815
  • Corner Bruce Highway & Mount Low Parkway, Mount Low, QLD 4818
  • SES Magnetic Island 55-57 Kelly Street, Nelly Bay
  • Rupertswood Rural Fire Shed at 14 Progress Road, Alice River QLD 4817
  • Bluewater Community Centre, 14 Forestry Rd, Bluewater QLD 4818
  • Cungulla SES Depot 15 Frank Randell Dr, Cape Cleveland QLD 4816
  • Pace Park - Mystic Sands.
