Do you know when and where your dog can be off their leash at the Camden Bicentennial Equestrian Park (BEP)?
To keep all users of the BEP - humans, dogs and horses - safe, there are rules which all visitors need to follow. There are two sections of the BEP, as indicated on the above map - an on-leash area and a time specific off-leash area. The BEP off-leash area is bounded by Cawdor Road, Onslow Park and Matahil Creek, while the remainder of the BEP is always on-leash.
As the name suggests, all dogs must remain on their leashes at all times in the on-leash area whereas, in the off-leash area, dogs may be let off their leashes before 10am and after 5pm. The only exception to this is on equestrian event days, where dogs are not to be permitted off their leashes in the off-leash section at any time of the day.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said this was a timely reminder for all users.
"The BEP is a fantastic facility that caters to equestrians, recreation seekers and visitors alike. With the high-quality equestrian facilities, extensive paths for walkers and those riding their bikes, it's a favourite with locals and those outside the area too," Cr Fedeli said.
"The fact that it's so popular means it's even more important everybody sticks to the rules, so everyone stays safe and has an enjoyable time visiting.
"These are not new rules and new signage and staff at the BEP will help make sure that everyone is aware. It doesn't matter how well-behaved your dog is or if you think there's no one around - dogs must only be let off their leash in the off-leash section before 10am or after 5pm."
For both areas, other conditions of use include:
- Dogs must be under effective control of a competent person over the age of 16 years within the Bicentennial Equestrian Park;
- The total number of dogs a person is accompanied by or has control of does not exceed four;
- Dog waste must be disposed of in the bins provided;
- Dogs must not rush at, attack, bite, harass or chase a person, horse or another animal;
- Dogs declared as dangerous, menacing or restricted breeds are not permitted to enter the facility at any time; and
- Children are to be supervised by an adult to prevent actions that may excite, scare, tease or intimidate dogs.
