Labor leader Rebecca White today visited Goodwood's Todd Gittus to discuss his increases in power prices and Labor's plan to cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent each year for the next three years.
Todd's power prices have gone up to such an extent that he now has to find an extra $40 to $50 a fortnight to keep the lights on.
This means he now has less money for groceries and other essential household expenditure.
Todd said he would support a cap on power price increases.
Under Labor's policy, we would cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent each year for the next three years saving the average Tasmanian household $500 a year.
Labor introduced legislation twice in 2022 to cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent and both times the government voted it down.
The government is more interested in slugging Tasmanians with their $50 million power tax to prop up their budget than providing proper relief to Tasmanian families and businesses.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government broke its 2018 election promise to get Tasmania out of the National Electricity Market.
Our policy protects Tasmanians from the price shocks in the National Electricity Market by capping power price increases at 2.5 per cent.
Tasmanians know that power bills would be less under Labor after the Liberal Government abandoned their Tasmania first energy policy.
