Together, we can end plastic pollution

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

This Plastic Free July, Australia is doing its bit to end plastic pollution, both at home and abroad.

As part of the High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution, Australia's working with likeminded countries on serious reforms to achieve the common goal of ending plastic pollution by 2040.

Australia is committed to minimising plastic use and working with industry, other governments, academia and the community to achieve a circular economy by 2030.

This involves transitioning to a model of production and consumption that promotes sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling materials and products for as long as possible.

Small steps to support a circular economy include:

  • avoiding disposable cups
  • carrying reusable bags
  • opting for products made from environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic.
