- Direct flights between Tokyo and Perth recommence today
- All Nippon Airways' three-times weekly flights delivering over 17,000 inbound seats into WA between October 2024 and March 2025
- Comes as South African Airways confirm an increased flight frequency between Johannesburg and Perth from December 2024 to meet increased demand
- Cook Government has secured or relaunched direct links with 20 international destinations to WA
Aviation in Western Australia continues to boom, with services between Tokyo and Perth resuming today and increased services being added to the Johannesburg-Perth route to meet the increase in demand.
The Cook Labor Government has secured the resumption and launch of non-stop flights from 20 global destinations into WA since borders reopened, reconnecting WA with the world and boosting tourism, business and investment opportunities.
The All Nippon Airways service between Tokyo and Perth first recommenced in October 2023, for an initial six-month seasonal service, bringing an additional 17,000 inbound seats from Japan during the peak demand period.
The Tokyo to Perth service will operate at three-times a week, supporting an additional 17,000 inbound seats into WA over the next five months.
In addition, South African Airways has confirmed it will upscale its non-stop Johannesburg-Perth services, currently operating three times a week
To meet the increased demand for the flight, which resumed in April 2024, the service will increase to four times a week from 8 December 2024 and five times a week from 7 January 2025.
It follows the recent launch of a direct flight to/from Paris, which makes Perth the only city in Australia with non-stop aviation connections to Continental Europe and the United Kingdom.
Perth is also preparing to welcome back China Southern's direct flights between Guangzhou and Perth next month, as well as China Eastern Airlines' special Chinese New Year flight between Shanghai and Perth.
As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
"We've made aviation a huge priority for our Government, not just for tourism but for business and investment opportunities as well and are really pleased to now have direct links with 20 different international destinations.
"It's exciting to welcome back the direct flight between Tokyo and Perth, given Japan is one of our top 10 tourism markets for visitation and spend.
"Equally, it's fantastic to see such huge demand for the services between Johannesburg and Perth, particularly given South Africa is one of our biggest inbound markets for travellers visiting their friends and relatives."
