The tender for the fast-tracked Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals projects has been released, with a contract expected to be awarded in November this year.

Last month the Cook Government announced it had partnered with Rio Tinto to fast-track major redevelopments at Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals by bundling together the projects to create a larger package of works.

While cost pressures have impacted infrastructure projects across the State, bundling the projects together creates a larger package of works that is more attractive to contractors.

It also reduces time spent tendering for government and industry, while building a sustainable pipeline of work for industry. The Department of Finance will work with the successful head contractor to maximise opportunities for local subcontractors based in regional WA.

The Tom Price project includes the design and construction of a new facility, which will include a modern emergency department, contemporary facilities for visiting services with private interview and consulting rooms, and a four-bed inpatient ward.

The project will be delivered through two distinct work packages - a forward works package that includes civil and structural works for the facility, in addition to a main works package that focuses on the construction of the new hospital.

Once all works are completed and services transitioned, the existing hospital will be demolished.

The Paraburdoo Hospital project includes the design and construction of a new fit-for-purpose facility at the existing hospital site. The final scope for the facility will be informed through collaboration with key stakeholders.

The total investment from Rio Tinto to Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals is now $40 million, after the company made an additional $20 million contribution through its investment inthe Resources Community Investment Initiative (RCII).

There was previously $32 million allocated for the Tom Price Hospital, the additional investment will bring the total budget for both projects to $52 million.

The tender is available on Tenders WA and closes on Friday, 13 September.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"These are significant infrastructure projects that will deliver modernised healthcare facilities for the people of the Pilbara.

"Staff at Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals continue to deliver excellent care to the community, and I look forward to seeing the project progress."

Comments attributed to Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:

"The release of the tender for the redevelopments of Tom Price and Paraburdoo Hospitals is an important milestone for the local community.

"By bundling together these two projects the redevelopment will be fast-tracked and will create sustainable work for local contractors and businesses."
