Tongan-born Man Charged With Visa Breach In QLD

A Tongan-born man has faced the Southport Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 27 June, 2024) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 34, today after locating him in Southport.

It will be alleged the man breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa on 15 June 2024 by failing to observe his residential curfew obligations.

The man has been charged with:

  • One count of failing to comply with a curfew condition, contrary to section 76C (1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

The man was granted conditional bail to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 15 July, 2024.

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and a $93,900 fine.
