The National Museum of Australia welcomes the recent appointment of Mr Tony Ayres to the Museum's Council for a three-year term.
Tony Ayres is an award-winning Australian director, producer, showrunner, screenwriter, and editor with more than 33 years' experience in film and television.
'I am delighted by the appointment of Mr Ayres to the Museum's Council,' said National Museum Council Chair Professor Clare Wright OAM.
'Mr Ayres will bring passion, creativity and insight to the National Museum – the very qualities that define our people and our work in telling Australia's complex and diverse national stories,' said Professor Wright. 'His industry know-how in engaging and inspiring audiences will be invaluable.'
Mr Ayres' feature films and television shows have been nominated for more than 100 Australian and international awards and have won more than 60 of these awards – including an International Emmy, a BAFTA, a Golden Horse, six AACTA awards, and six Logies.
He is most notable for his films Walking on Water and The Home Song Stories, as well as his work on television, including working as the showrunner on The Slap and teen adventure series Nowhere Boys.
'Mr Ayres is highly respected in the Australian arts sector and has made a vital contribution to our nation's film and television culture,' said National Museum Director Katherine McMahon.
'We look forward to Mr Ayers joining the Council, which will benefit from his experience and deep understanding of the cultural landscape,' said Ms McMahon.
Mr Ayres is Executive Producer at Tony Ayres Productions, a Member of the Advisory Board of Australians in Film, and a Company Director at Big and Little Films.
