Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has reached a major milestone in the 2022 Flood Recovery Program, as the first of two delivery partners, Georgiou Group, has broken ground earlier this week on Newton-Stephen Road Bowenville to kick off the delivery of Flood Recovery repairs in the Region's north.
Georgiou Group was appointed in July, alongside Golding Contractors, to support Council's own Construction and Maintenance Team, who have been delivering permanent Flood Recovery repairs since September 2022.
TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said, "It's great to see Council's Flood Recovery Program reach this important milestone, especially seeing first-hand the amount of work that has gone into securing the funding for these repairs and finding the right partners to assist in delivering these essential works."
The permanent reconstruction works across the Region are expected to total more than $200 million with assistance provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
"Council's Construction and Maintenance teams have been working hard and doing a great job to repair our road network since the Region was impacted by flooding between late 2021 and mid-2022," Cr Taylor said.
"With such a large works program, the commencement of Georgiou Group in the Region's north is a welcome announcement as Council works towards the delivery of the full Flood Recovery Program by late 2024, weather permitting."
Georgiou is expected to focus on Bowenville, Formartin and the surrounding areas as they methodically work across the Region's north to deliver their portion of the Flood Recovery Program.
Council encourages residents and road users to continue to be vigilant around road works and changed road conditions, paying particular attention to the direction of traffic management personnel and signage.
