Toowoomba Facilities Shut for Cyclone Alfred Prep

Highlights:

  • All Toowoomba Regional Council facilities will close tomorrow, Friday 7 March, 2025, until further notice
  • TRC Customer Service Call Centre will remain open on 131 872

In an ongoing effort to keep the community safe from potential impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, all community-facing Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) facilities and waste services will be closed or suspended tomorrow, Friday 7 March until further notice.

Toowoomba Region Mayor and Chair of the Toowoomba Local Disaster Management Group Geoff McDonald said TRC would close these facilities and halt these services in the best interests of the community.

"The safest place for almost all residents of the Toowoomba Region across the weekend will be in their own homes.

"We are not expected to have the same severe impacts from TC Alfred as Brisbane and coastal areas however we are making preparations and ask residents to do the same.

"The good news is, there's still time for our residents to prepare as the cyclone has slowed its westward path and a coastal crossing is now not expected until late Friday or even Saturday.

"We are currently gathering resources in line with the latest forecasting which will allow us to assist the community to deal with the potential impacts of this weather event.

"Residents should take precautions such as driving to conditions on our roads, preparing your home for storm-type impacts and having an emergency plan if you live in a location across our region which floods or becomes isolated from flooding should that potentially occur later this week and across the weekend," Mayor McDonald said.
