Walking and mountain bike trails in two Toowoomba escarpment parks will close temporarily while bridges are replaced at the localities.
Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said the walking trail from McStay Street to Dorge Street on the city's south-eastern escarpment, in Glen Lomond Park, would be closed from Monday, April 28 until Friday, May 9, 2025, weather permitting, to allow the replacement of an ageing pedestrian bridge. Cr McMahon said the second project, to replace a mountain bike bridge in Jubilee Park in the city's north east, required the closure of the Top Shelf and Danomite Mountain Bike Trails from Tuesday, May 6 to Friday, May 16, 2025, weather permitting.
"The respective pedestrian and bike bridges in our Toowoomba escarpment parks need to be replaced to ensure all visitors can safely enjoy our outdoor recreation areas," Cr McMahon said.
"The Jubilee Park trails are very popular with mountain bike riders, and we need to upgrade one of the trail bridges to ensure it can accommodate the bike riders visiting the park.
"Council appreciates our community's patience as these important pedestrian and mountain bike bridge replacements are completed.
"The projects highlight our commitment to upgrading and revitalising our recreational spaces, ensuring they remain safe for everyone to enjoy."
