Toowoomba Region Dam Spilling As Wet Weather Continues

One of Toowoomba Regional Council's main drinking water sources is currently spilling as wet weather continues across the region.

Perseverance Dam is currently spilling following inflows across the weekend and again today (Monday).

Toowoomba Region Deputy Mayor Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff said the community should not be alarmed as Perseverance Dam runs into Cressbrook Dam which currently has some capacity for inflows before it also spills.

"While Perseverance Dam is currently spilling, minimal community impacts are expected without further significant inflows.

"Cooby Dam is currently not spilling as at 3pm on Monday.

"Council has stood-up its dam monitoring control room to continue monitoring levels of Perseverance and Cressbrook which will feed information into the Toowoomba and Somerset Local Disaster Management Groups about the status and levels of the dams.

"All three of our major dams have spillways, meaning Council does not have the capability to control the flow of water released from the dams in the same way that SEQ Water's Wivenhoe Dam operates for instance.

"The community can be assured that Council will monitor and model any impacts as a result of the region's dams spilling and will keep the community updated should conditions change," Cr Vonhoff said.
