Three more of Tasmania's most decorated sports stars have had their names etched into history, recognised at the Tasmanian Institute of Sport's annual Athlete Breakfast.
The TIS marked the 35th year of offering High Performance Scholarships by welcoming its class of 2025 and adding three more members to the distinguished Champions Club.
Lawn bowler Rebecca Van Asch, sailor Matt Bugg and rower Ciona Wilson were inducted to the Champions Club, joining an elite group by being recognised for contributing to the development of Tasmanian sport through their performances and interactions.
Established in 2006, the TIS Champions Club recognises retired athletes who have held a TIS scholarship for more than five years and achieved exceptional performances on the international stage. There are 24 existing members.
Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said all three inductees had met the Champions Club criteria of demonstrating a high level of professionalism and conduct throughout their sporting career.
"Rebecca, Matt and Ciona join a very select group in the Tasmanian Institute of Sport Champions Club, recognising not only their high-level sporting accomplishments, but also as terrific ambassadors for the Institute," Minister Duigan said.
"It was great to have them here with us today, to share their sporting experiences, and to inspire the next generation of Tasmanian athletes."
A total of 72 athletes will receive TIS scholarships across 10 sports, with 50 more supported across varying levels, including 15 each through both the cycling and rowing performance squads, and six through the Para-Sport Academy.
Further athletes will receive support through the Talent ID for 2032 program, with High Performance Scholarship athletes recognised in archery, athletics, basketball, boccia, canoe slalom, cycling, equestrian, hockey, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, tennis, triathlon, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future gives Tasmanians access to sporting facilities they need to succeed, which is exactly what the TIS do," Minister Duigan said.
