Tourism Council WA welcomes the public sector changes announced by the State Government today.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said he welcomed the Western Australian Tourism Commission (Tourism WA) moving out of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and joining with the new Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
"This means the State's major event venues and cultural attractions will be in the same department as Tourism WA," Mr Hall said.
"We look forward to working with Hon Reece Whitby MLA as Tourism Minister, Deputy Premier and Minister for Sport and Recreation Hon Rita Saffioti MLA, and Minister for Creative Industries Hon Simone McGurk MLA, in the new State Government structure."
Mr Hall said WA was still recovering visitor numbers to pre-COVID 2019 levels, with Tourism Council WA looking forward to working with the Director General to recover WA visitation.
"We hope the new department will bring a sharp focus to attracting visitors back to WA and maintaining the jobs and economic diversity tourism creates," Mr Hall said.
