Tourism Council WA has welcomed today's announcement by Premier Mark McGowan of an additional $12 million to boost WA's tourism industry.
The funding injection will have an immediate effect of getting bums-on-seats as it is directed into marketing campaigns to commence shortly.
"This additional funding will provide an immediate boost to visitor numbers, tourist dollars and local jobs," Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said.
"Because this boost funding is additional to the Budget, it will enable Tourism WA to undertake additional marketing activities with the tourism industry, which will attract additional visitors."
The additional funding for Tourism WA will attract additional cooperative funding from the tourism industry to invest in marketing WA.
"This funding boost is what the industry needs to drive immediate bookings and maintain and grow our share of visitors coming to Australia," Mr Hall said.
"While Australia undergoes a tourism boom, it is imperative that Western Australia focuses on securing and growing its market share through this boost funding."
The additional boost funding would make a significant difference to the outcomes from the Australian Tourism Exchange, taking place in Perth in April.
"With large travel agents from around the world soon to descend on Perth, this funding boost will ensure we can do deals to promote Western Australian holiday packages for immediate sale," Mr Hall said.
