The second largest box office Australian movie of 2019, Top End Wedding, continues to generate results for the Territory with Tourism NT winning three awards at the 2020 Mumbrella Travel Awards held in Sydney last night.

Tourism NT was the catalyst funding partner for the second largest box office Australian movie of 2019 'Top End Wedding' starring the Territory's own Miranda Tapsell as well as our iconic Top End destinations including Darwin, Tiwi Islands, Kakadu, Arnhem Land and Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge and Katherine.

The Mumbrella Travel Awards celebrate the best work created by travel marketers across the Asia-Pacific region and the project that created and combined all the Top End Wedding campaign pieces together won the Best Use of Native or Content Marketing, Award for Bravery and Breakthrough Destination of the Year.

The Best Use of Native or Content Marketing, Award for Bravery and Breakthrough Destination of the Year awards are in recognition of the integrated work that involved the creation of the film, the web series Location Scouts and Tourism NT's partnership with the Nine Network, which was spearheaded by the TODAY Show's 'Win a Top End Wedding' competition.

The Mumbrella awards are further recognition for Tourism NT and follow the web series Location Scouts winning 11 global short film festival awards including Best Web Series at the Los Angeles Film Awards, London independent Film Awards, Rio Webfest and the Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival.

A hilarious behind-the-scenes look into location scouting for Top End Wedding, the movie, Location Scouts, the series, was created by the Van Vuuren Brothers for Tourism NT.

The marketing activity involving the film, online series and Nine Network helped grow the interstate holiday visitation to the Top End by 5.6% during the campaign period and by 14% over the 12 months year-ending September 2019

Top End Wedding used the services of 180 local suppliers and vendors, injecting over $1.5 million into the Territory economy and creating 190 jobs.

The campaign promoted many local businesses and tourist attractions to thousands of people across Australia and the film is now working its way around the world with the US market release in February 2020.

Quote from Tourism NT's Executive General Manager, marketing Tony Quarmby:

"It is always great to be recognised and commended for the work you do but for Tourism NT, winning awards helps us keep the Territory, and in this case, the Top End at the forefront of people's minds."

"In these challenging tourism times being able to help create more awareness through previous campaigns helps support current marketing activity by reminding people of the emotions they felt when first seeing the film or series.

"That reminder may just be the trigger to them booking their Holiday Here This Year".
