Tourism Push to Unlock Hunter/Central Coast Growth

The Property Council of Australia's Hunter and Central Coast division has welcomed the NSW Government's review of the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy released today.

Property Council NSW Hunter and Central Coast Regional Director, Amy De Lore, said the unique blend of lifestyle, tourism, and economic potential in both regions was creating significant opportunities for developers and investors.

"Both the Hunter and Central Coast are poised for substantial growth, and this report makes it clear that targeted investment in infrastructure and development will be key," Ms De Lore said.

"By improving connectivity, we'll attract more visitors and create demand for new housing and commercial developments that will support economic growth.

"Major projects such as the Newcastle Airport expansion and transport upgrades are improving access and opening the wider region up to greater domestic and international tourism.

"The Central Coast is about to welcome its first new-build hotel in more than 15 years, with the opening of voco Gosford as part of Aland's Archibald precinct in the CBD.

"And unique developments like Black Rock Motor Resort, under construction in Lake Macquarie, will drive the sort of 'experience tourism' that is a key pillar of the strategy," Ms De Lore said.

Ms De Lore said the report shows the tourism sector offers major investment opportunities, with events and festivals driving visitation and generating demand for new accommodation options.

"By leveraging these opportunities, the Hunter and Central Coast can build on existing strengths as lifestyle destinations, while also addressing the need for sustainable growth and housing affordability," Ms De Lore said.

"Investing in the Hunter and Central Coast now will help meet the immediate needs of growing populations and ensure both regions thrive for decades to come.

"We need to prioritise smart, sustainable development that enhances our natural and cultural assets while providing the infrastructure and housing needed to support economic growth," she said.
