Townsville LGA Threat Eases, Black Zones Excluded

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has advised the threat to the Townsville LGA is reduced, excluding black zone properties at Hermit Park, Rosslea and Railway Estate.

Residents of black zone properties at Hermit Park, Rosslea and Railway Estate are advised Emergency Services are currently undertaking assessments to make the area safe. Further advice regarding black zone properties at Hermit Park, Rosslea and Railway Estate will provided today.

Rainfall is expected to continue. The Ross River's levels remain high and residents should continue to stay informed.

TLDMG Chair Andrew Robinson said residents needed to be aware of impacts across the LGA.

"Residents of black zone properties at Hermit Park, Rosslea and Railway Estate should remain in a safe place until advised they can return to their homes. All other residents can return to their home or business with caution to check damage," Cr Robinson said.

"We need residents to be careful, be aware of these impacts and prioritise their safety.

"Roads, buildings and powerlines may have been damaged. Power is off in some places, but this will be restored when it is safe. There is a lot of mud and rubbish on the ground and in the water, and there could be more spiders, rats and snakes around than usual.

"Stay away from creeks, rivers and drains. If you have children, make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.

"Drive slowly, obey all road signs and never drive through floodwaters. If it's flooded, forget it."
