The NSW Government has called on leading industry experts to establish the first state Trade and Industry Advisory Committee (TIAC) to help boost NSW's economy following the impacts of COVID-19.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the group will deliver expert advice to the Government on effectively managing the evolving global trade industry including current trends and emerging export growth opportunities.
"Global trade is changing rapidly having faced a range of disruptions over recent years and I want to make sure we have the right policies and programs in place to support the growth of NSW businesses by boosting export and investment opportunities," Mr Barilaro said.
"Currently trade supports one in five jobs in Australia and businesses who export are more resilient, innovative and pay higher wages. With exports valued at $96 billion, which is 15 per cent of our state's economy, leveraging our competitive advantage across the world is crucial for our future."
The Deputy Premier has asked Margaret Jack to co-chair the committee with him.
"Margaret Jack has long been recognised as one of Australia's most strategic thinkers in international business, with a strong record of providing specialist advice to private and public bodies, including the board of Adecco. She has represented Australia at Davos (2019) and B20 meetings," Mr Barilaro said.
The other eight members of TIAC reflect the diversity of the NSW economy, with a focus on NSW's priority industries from large and small business, right across the state, including regional industries:
- Mark Goodsell, National Lead Manufacturing, Ai Group
- Stephen Galilee, CEO, NSW Minerals Council
- Jason Strong, MD, Meat and Livestock Australia
- Michael Hampson, CEO, Norco Co-operative Limited
- Remo Nogarotto, Executive Chairman, CT Corporate Advisory
- Daniel Walton, National Secretary (NSW), Australian Workers' Union
- Lorraine Chiroiu, CEO and MD, AusBiotech
- Michael Clifton, President, Australia China Business Council NSW
- Jenny West, Deputy Secretary - Trade, Investment NSW (ex-officio member on behalf of the NSW Government).
