Goodwin Street has become Benalla's newest School Zone, with the speed limit reduced to 40km/hr between 8am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4pm on school days in the area between Harold Street and Griffiths Street.
'Benalla Rural City Council has been granted Department of Transport approval to enhance safety of the Goodwin Street school crossing,' Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said.
'This new speed limit will be welcomed by the families of students using the Goodwin Street School Zone and our School Crossing Supervisors will also be glad to see the traffic along this busy road slowed down.'
Signage indicating the change was erected late last week.
