More Tasmanian students will be job-ready with the Tasmanian Government rolling out its $30 million VET Futures Fund, which is providing schools with new and upgraded facilities and equipment to support them in their training.
Touring Campbell Town District High School's new $2 million agricultural studies building, Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the school will also receive $10,200 for new industry-standard equipment enabling the school to expand its agricultural VET programs.
"As part of the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, our $30 million VET Futures Fund is delivering modern, fit-for-purpose VET facilities and industry standard equipment in our secondary schools, colleges and Trade Training Centres," Minister Palmer said.
"Across Tasmania, the Fund will provide our young people with the chance to learn using contemporary equipment and develop the specialist skills they need for a rewarding career.
"At Campbell Town District High School, this funding will allow the school to purchase sheep farming and shearing equipment, which will help them facilitate their Certificate I and II in Agriculture."
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said Campbell Town District High is one of 36 schools to receive funding in the first grants round.
"This Fund gives young Tasmanians the tools, skills and expertise that they need, securing the builders, tradies, and industry leaders that will keep Tasmania moving forward," Minister Ellis said.
"By investing in skills early, we're showing young Tasmanians that you don't need to go to university to have great opportunities in life."
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is also investing $750,000 to upskill industry experts and tradespeople to become VET teachers and $2.5 million to provide more vocational learning for Year 9 and 10 students in our secondary schools.
